Documentary Filmmaking
I'm drawn to stories that take us beyond the familiar – into the lives, environments and perspectives of people we might otherwise never encounter.
My approach to documentary filmmaking is rooted in authenticity, curiosity and observation. Whether behind the camera or in the edit, I'm interested in real people and unscripted moments – and in shaping them into stories that create understanding, connection and emotional impact.
Documentary storytelling is also where many of my interests come together: filmmaking, photography, visual storytelling and the challenge of finding structure and meaning within real life.
PROJECTS
My Name is Madi
Independent Documentary · The Gambia / Germany
My Name is Madi follows the story of a man who left his home in The Gambia in search of a better future for himself and his family – a journey that took him across borders, through uncertainty and into a new life in Germany.
Filmed in The Gambia and Germany, the project began as an independent documentary developed and produced by Timo Dehn Productions in collaboration with MBE Media.
The project remains an important part of my development as a documentary filmmaker and continues to shape the way I approach authentic storytelling, unscripted situations and real people on screen.
