Working aboard Sea Shepherd's Baltic Sea Campaign offered the opportunity to document people, purpose and everyday life in an environment far removed from the ordinary.
Rather than staging situations, my focus was on observing the crew at work and capturing the moments, conditions and atmosphere that shaped life aboard the campaign. Working in constantly changing environments – at sea, in confined spaces and alongside people focused on a shared mission – required a responsive and unobtrusive approach to photography.
It is exactly this kind of documentary work that continues to interest me: real people, real environments and access to places and stories that usually remain unseen.
